Romance in the Rain: A Herb Lyceum at Gilson’s Wedding

Bride enters the ceremony tent under the cover of umbrella as the rain poured down

Every wedding has a unique story to tell, and it's a privilege for me to be the storyteller. I had the honor of documenting a remarkable wedding at the enchanting Herb Lyceum at Gilson's in Groton, MA for Carolina and Michael. Despite the rain that graced the day, the ceremony took place surrounded by lush, green gardens, creating a truly magical atmosphere. Come along with me as I recount this unforgettable day.

Setting the Stage: Nestled amidst the picturesque town of Groton, the Herb Lyceum at Gilson's stands as a timeless and idyllic venue. Its stunning gardens serve as a perfect backdrop for weddings, and on this day, they transformed into an ethereal oasis despite the rain. The raindrops added a touch of romance to the air, while the lush foliage and vibrant flowers provided a captivating palette of greens.

The Ceremony: The original plan for the ceremony was for it to take place in the garden. As you’ve gathered by now, the weather had other plans for the day. The staff at Gilson’s were fantastic in making accommodations on the fly as everything was changing around the day. As the guests gathered under the elegantly adorned tent, anticipation filled the air. The raindrops gracefully fell, adding a melodic rhythm to the ceremony. Carolina, radiant in her flowing gown, walked from the farmhouse to the tent, escorted under the cover of an umbrella. The richness of emotions was palpable as vows were exchanged amidst the tranquility of the rain.

Embracing the Rain: Rather than letting the rain dampen their spirits, Carolina and Michael wholeheartedly embraced the unexpected weather. Their smiles radiated warmth and joy as they exchanged vows. As it turned out, not long after the ceremony was finished, the rain let up and Carolina and Michael were able to enjoy their cocktail hour out in the garden.

Romantic Portraits: As the ceremony concluded, we ventured into the gardens for the couple's portrait session. As I mentioned, the original plan was for them to be married in the garden. We took the opportunity with the break in the rain to head down to the garden and create a portrait that would have graced them. From stolen glances under the translucent umbrella to playful twirls by the kids in the rain, every moment was a testament to their love and resilience.

Reception: The reception hall, the beautiful farmhouse, was adorned with soft lighting and elegant decor. The guests mingled and celebrated, undetered by the weather. Laughter and heartfelt toasts filled the room, as the couple's love story unfolded through speeches and shared memories. The rain had become part of their story that day, but their love was the only thing that mattered.

This wedding was a testament to the beauty that can arise even in the face of unexpected challenges. The rain, far from being an inconvenience, brought an ethereal charm to the ceremony, turning a regular wedding day into an extraordinary celebration. The lush gardens and greenery only intensified the beauty of the moments we were able to capture. This wedding reminded me that true love knows no bounds and that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places. I'm grateful to have been part of this magical day, where raindrops and lush gardens painted an unforgettable backdrop for a remarkable love story.
