What to wear to take the stress out of family photos and be authentic
My clients are often overwhelmed when deciding what to wear for family photos. It can be the one thing that takes what should be an awesome experience for your family and turns it into a huge stressor. It’s also one of the reasons families decide not to even have their pictures done.
That’s just one of the reasons I put together this list of ideas to simplify your prep and remove the stress from your photo session.
Although not an exhaustive guide, this hopefully will serve as a starting point so you can show up to your session relaxed and confident that your photos will represent you and your family authentically.

Choose one anchor piece - This might be a solid colored dress on mom or a jacket or shirt on dad.
Build off of the anchor piece - Based on the color of the key piece, choose complimentary colors for everyone else’s outfit that work with the key piece.
Add in accent pieces - These can be things like hats, scarves, jewelry, or belt.
Avoid matching outfits - This might seem like a good idea (white t-shirts and jeans, anyone?) but this doesn’t create an authentic look.
Take clothes out of your own closets - A great way to keep your photos authentic is to wear what you’ve already got!
